Family Dog

What do you imagine when you think of your family dog goals? What are some of the behavior's you have right now? Maybe:
-
Digging up the sprinklers
-
Barking at the window
-
Jumping all over people
-
Pulling on leash
-
Busting through the front door
-
Stealing food from the counter
-
Playing "keep away" with the ball
-
Reactivity on leash
-
Ignoring your cue's

Your list might be shorter, or it could be longer. How on earth do we move from:

"My dog just runs off when he sees a squirrel"
to
"My dog turns on a dime when he hears his name"

Our goal here is to look at the things our dog wants and inspire them to want the same thing we want, through strategic layers of fun, short games.

A few of the games we play put value in skills such as:

These skills help give your dog autonomy over their own life, setting them up to make decisions that you want, resulting in giving them more freedom when they make good choices without you looming over them saying "Leave it, leave it" or "Staaay, staaaay". The skills learned in Family Dog are also perfect behavior building blocks for future sports. Family Dog skills can also be used as foundations with challenges such as resource guarding, reactivity, and more.

-
Coming when called (Recalls)
-
No counter surfing/getting in the trash
-
Not jumping up for greetings
-
Lose Leash Walking
-
Not running out the front door
-
Leaving dinner plates alone
-
Retrieve

and more...Since growing both you, and your dogs skills is in the form of short games, its far easier for both of you to want to grow your relationship together because it doesn't feel like as much of a chore, and is instead something you both can look forward to doing together.
