New Fire

We all have a goal in mind with our dogs. It could be as big of a goal as competing in world championships in a dog sport, or a goal as big as walking a reactive dog passed another dog.

-"I can't get this dog to trial when he can't hold a start line"
-"This dog had a bad history with men, we have to keep her at home and never allow men over because it's just the way she is"
-"We tried that, it didn't work"

I was watching a show before bed with a character named "Eiji". Eiji played a blacksmith who had been blinded by the fire from making swords. Although he was blind, people would seek his work because he made the best swords. To him, it did not matter what happened "before".
Eiji said, "Every day I start a new fire".
It does not matter what happened yesterday, you can start a new fire today.

"Yesterday is history
Tomorrow a mystery
But today is a gift,
That is why it is called the present."
– Eleanor Roosevelt

Whatever your goals are, they have to start out with building a strong foundation. With out a strong foundation, the house will crumble under pressure. After you have your strong foundation, then we add walls, plumbing, heating, and turrets of course.
"You don't rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems" -Susan Garrett

With any discipline in life, establishing solid foundations is vital to laying the groundwork for future success. Just as crawling precedes walking in human development, foundational skills form behavior building blocks upon which more advanced behaviors are constructed. By mastering these basics, dogs learn how to learn, developing focus, impulse control, and the ability to make appropriate choices. Investing time and effort in building a solid foundation sets the stage for a lifetime of successful training.

In Foundations, we walk you through the first steps on how to "shape" behavior. So even if you're an experienced trainer, you might be new to shaping-or maybe you’ve only scratched the surface. This course breaks it down into simple, practical games that build clarity, confidence, and communication between you and your dog. Whether you're starting fresh or refining your skills, Foundations gives you the tools to build real-life skills through fun and focus.

This puppy learned how to "hotzone" for this cute picture. He hopes you come and join us!
